Transition of Care Letter for Wayne Memorial Hospital Patients

Contract Ends on December 5, 2013

Date: 11/05/2013

After BCBSNC CEO Brad Wilson and Wayne Memorial CEO Bill Paugh met last Monday, we were optimistic that we may be able to resolve our differences and move toward a new contract that would keep the hospital in-network for our customers in Wayne County.

However, it appears the hospital does not share our urgency to resolve this issue.  Since that meeting, the hospital has not presented a meaningful proposal, which means there has been no progress toward a new deal. The hospital has declined BCBSNC’s offer to meet in person to expedite the process toward a resolution. We all know that this issue is critically important to our customers in Wayne County, and stalling benefits no one.

Without a new contract, BCBSNC is required to mail letters to our customers in Wayne County notifying them of their options for transitioning care and the guidelines under which customers may continue to use Wayne Memorial. Those letters must be mailed 30 days before the contract ends on December 5. Today we mailed a copy of the letter below to approximately 4,600 members who potentially need to transition ongoing care.
